About Me and my Photography

Photography began for me back in the early seventies when I was given a Kodak Instamatic as a present. After shooting my first film and rushing down to the chemist to get it processed, the wait was unbearable. 3 days later I picked up that film and was amazed they even came out but came out they did. From that point I was pretty much hooked. After a couple of years I got a then a modern 110 camera which was a handy pocket camera. 1975 saw my first SLR, the Zenith E which I upgraded to the EM after a year or so. I still have both cameras and they still work to this day. My long relationship with Canon started a few years later with the A1 and the AT-1 which I also still use now and then. The EOS years came and I was reluctant to upgrade the A1 as it was just the perfect camera, but upgrade I did. I got the EOS 50e and it came with eye control which I loved and miss terribly on the digital cameras. I still use the 50e now and again but digital really has taken over.
Digital cameras I own are the Canon 350d which is a 8mp DSLR which takes great images and the Canon 40d 10mp. I also use a Panasonic FZ8 for macro too. It's a handy little bridge camera that is a joy to use.
Over the years I have taken photographs in pretty much every genera, I think macro is by far my favourite type of photography. I just love to show detail that the naked eye just can't see. I have done weddings and child portraits in the past, I worked for a local studio called Young Rascals back in the 80s and no doubt people are still looking at those images today (well I like to think so).
I have had images used by the BBC and quite a few other national organisations which use them for their identification purposes. My insect photographic catalogue is growing at a good rate and this site shows quite a small part of it.
